چکیده

Due to rising concern regarding the presence of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in surface water and groundwater throughout the United States, Asia, and Europe, treatment of these chemicals in drinking water and wastewater to protect human health and the environment is an area of great interest. Many conventional treatment schemes are relatively ineffective in removing EDCs from water and wastewater. This is concerning because these chemicals are biologically active at very low concentrations and effects of mixtures are relatively unknown. 17-α-estradiol (E2), 17-β-ethinyl-estradiol (EE2), and bisphenol-A (BPA), all suspected EDCs, were degraded significantly by medium pressure (MP) UV and UV/H2O2 AOP. The UV/H2O2 processes were significantly more effective, degrading EDCs by between 80% and 99.3% with a dose of 1000mJ/cm. A steady state model was developed to determine EDC destruction efficiency in waters of differing quality. The model effectively predicted destruction in water, where concentrations of all scavenging species were known. Subsequent analysis of treated water was carried out using a Yeast Estrogen Screen (YES) assay. Based on this assay, complete destruction of estrogenic activity was possible under advanced oxidation conditions.

Influence of dissolved organic matter in natural and simulated water on the photochemical decomposition of butylparaben

BACKGROUND In the last few decades the quality of natural water has often deteriorated as a variety of novel pollutants have contaminated rivers and lakes. Trace amounts of some man-made chemicals can be hazardous to plants, animals as well as human health as carcinogens, mutagens or endocrine disruptors. Light radiation may help in its decomposition, aided by naturally occurring colored organi...

S2O8/UV-C and H2O2/UV-C TREATMENT OF AQUEOUS BISPHENOL A RESULTS IN DIFFERENT ACUTE TOXICITY PATTERNS

Bisphenol A (2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane), a chemical compound used in the manufacture of polycarbonate, epoxy and polysulfonate resins, can alter the endocrine system, causing adverse effects in the reproductive systems of humans and animals. More recently, the application of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) has been recommended to treat toxic and/or biorefractory compounds including BP...

Employing UV/H2O2 process for degradation of 2,4-Diaminotoluene in synthetic wastewater

Background & Aims of the Study: Toluene-2, 4-diamine (TDA) is a famous carcinogenic aromatic amine that is mostly employed as an intermediate in the production of dyes and toluene diisocyanate. In this study, degradation and mineralization of TDA were investigated by UV/H2O2 process. Materials & Methods: This study is an experimental investigation on a laboratory scale. T...

مقایسه اثر ضدعفونی‌کنندگی اتانول، آب اکسیژنه و دکونکس با اشعه‌ ماوراء بنفش بر روی سطوح و تجهیزات آزمایشگاه تحقیقاتی ناباروری یزد

Background: Decontamination is a process that infectious organisms are removed by physical and chemical methods. The advantages and disadvantages of each of these values can lead to a clear viewpoint of an appropriate sterilization process. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of 70% alcohol, Deconex (SOLARSEPT) and H2O2, also the additive effect of supplemental UV light o...

Production of photo-oxidants by dissolved organic matter during UV water treatment.

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) irradiated by sunlight generates photo-oxidants that can accelerate organic contaminant degradation in surface waters. However, the significance of this process to contaminant removal during engineered UV water treatment has not been demonstrated, partly due to a lack of suitable methods in the deep UV range. This work expands methods previously established to det...
